Bullfighting Museum, Béjar

In the setting of "El Castañar" only 2 km far from Béjar and closet o the Sanctuary o El Castañar, we can visit the oldest bullring in Spain, known as "La ancianita". In the main building, there is a box seat, the ticket offices, the health services and this museum.

In this museum we can see a great variety of ítems and tolos related to the Fiesta and the bulls. We can find different objects related to bull fighters who have been in this bull ring, such as Isidoro Pamo "el Salamanquinito” (from Bejar). 

Museum of wine and distillates, in Villarino de los Aires

The visit is developed in two places, a museum and a traditional cellar. The museum is located in an old spirits distillery Some old machines are still kept and there are some interpretative and audiovisual panels.

Then the visitors are carried to the Bodega de Amable, built in the 16th century and subsequently enlarged. This is private cellar of great cultural and architectonical; the cellar is also the place where some bats live.

"Casa de las Artesanías" ethnographic museum in Mogarraz

Right in the main square of a village that is a museum in itself, the visitor will find a simple yet attractive display focused on the most representative craftwork in Sierra de Francia mountains.
On the first floor, several rooms introduce the traveller to the world of traditional jewellery to later explore the shoemaking trade. The process and outcomes of such trades are both exhibited in a didactic manner.

Museum of the Carmelitas Descalzas Monastery

This 17th century convent, which grew up under the protection of the Condal House of Peñaranda, has a magnificent collection of religious art. There are masterpieces from the Italian School by Lucas Jordan, Andrea Vaccaro and Guido Reni.

It is also advisable to visit the collection of bronze items, a “Calvary” called “El Oratorio del Conde” (The Count´s Oratory), the relics in the Chapel of Loreto and a magnificent Italian reliquary.

Saint Teresa and Saint Juan de la Cruz Centre

Opposite the convent of Saint Teresa, the visitor can find this small but interesting museum which has three rooms that show different kinds of items.

The first room houses a great number of works of religious Baroque art related to Saint Teresa de Jesus. Reliquaries, goldsmith pieces, wooden sculptures of saints, facsimiles of the works by Saint Teresa take the visitor to a world of passion and spirituality.

Mateo Hernández Sculpture Museum

Opened in 1980, this museum is located on the remains of the old church of San Gil, whose apse is nowadays a temporal exhibition room.

The most important part of the collection includes the works of art donated by the sculptor Mateo Hernandez to the Spanish nation just before dying in 1949, and by another sculptor, Francisco Gonzalez Macias.

Jewish Museum David Melul

An engineer from Melilla, David Melul, who was in love with the Town of Bejar, was the first benefactor and cultural promoter of this museum which tries to pay tribute to the Spanish Jews, called Sephardi Jews. 

Wicker Interpretive and documentation centre

This centre is located in the former masters' houses of Villoruela, and it aims at future preservation of the history of the fundamental production activity in the municipality until not long ago: the wicker.

Costume museum in La Alberca

Although traditional clothing in La Alberca dates back to the Middle Ages, today's conception follows 18th- and 19th-century patterns. Noble fabric treated with different techniques are ornamented with rich golden, silvery and pearl jewels forming costumes of extreme beauty, specially in female attire. The traje de vistas costume is one of the most ancient, richest and valuable pieces of traditional attire in the whole country. In conclusion, this museum hosts a simple but dignified collection of great interest.
