Las Arribes
From the town of Ledesma, towards the north-west, the plain is interrupted by one of the most amazing landscapes in Spain. This is the Natural Park of Las Arribes del Duero.
It is a natural location in the north-west of the province of Salamanca and the south-east of the province of Zamora. It protects the geomorphology of the rivers Agueda, Duero, Esla, Huebra, Tormes and Uces owing to the fact that there is a lower altitude area and another higher altitude one, being Las Arribes the steepest slopes situated on both sides of these rivers.
Ciudad Rodrigo y la Frontera
The region of Ciudad Rodrigo is located in the south-west of the province of Salamanca. In this area impregnated by its own history and culture due to the fact of being situated near the border with Portugal we can enjoy the view of fortress cities, such as the one which gives its name to the region, the mountain landscapes such as the Gata and Francia Mountains and the wide oak meadows of El Rebollar.
Tierras de Peñaranda y Alba
The Tormes is the most important river in the province of Salamanca. It runs through the capital city and it is the framework of the places built on its banks: Alba de Tormes in the west, is influenced by the river. This is one town which have been declared Historical Site and it is worth visiting.
Sierra de Béjar y Candelario
This area is the highest in the province. In fact, it is very common to see the snowy mountains all through the year in the only icy area in the province of Salamanca. This privileged scenery earned it being declared by the UNESCO, together with The Sierra de Francia, Biosphere Reserve.
The Sierra de Bejar is part of the Sistema Central, which is a range of mountains located in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. El Cenchal de la Ceja and El Calvitero, which are over 2.400 metres high, are the highest peaks in these mountains.
Sierra de Francia
This is one of the destinations that the visitor cannot miss when they come to Salamanca. It is one of the most famous places due to its natural and cultural values. The most part of its land is situated in Las Batuecas – Sierra de Francia Natural Park and the Biosphere Reserve and its villages are so charming that the visitors cannot help falling for this beauty.
You can start in Peña de Francia, from where we can see all the province. In the south, the valley of Las Batuecas invites the visitor to meditate among chapels and prehistoric paintings.
El Campo Charro
The holm oak meadows are the typical landscape in Salamanca. The fighting bull livestock is kept walking around these meadows. They are in the middle of the province, with important locations, such as La Fuente de San Esteban, Aldehuela de la Boveda, Matilla de los Caños del Rio, Vecinos or Tamames.
