Teresian Route: from Ávila to Alba de Tormes with Teresa of Jesus
The route "From the craddle to the grave" links the cities of Ávila and Alba de Tormes, both Teresian by excellence, thus offering the pilgrim a historical and spiritual tour after the footprints of the Restless Saint.
On arrival in the Salamancan province through the municipality of Mancera de Abajo, pilgrims may decide whether to take the Northern or the Southern Way, both suitably signposted. The first Way goes through Mancera de Abajo, Bóveda del Río Almar, Peñaranda de Bracamonte, Nava de Sotrobal, Coca de Alba, Peñarandilla, Garcihernández and Alba de Tormes, making up to 40 kilometres approximately.
The Southern one traverses Mancera de Abajo, Macotera (with its splendid coffered ceiling known as the "Heaven of Macotera"), Tordillos, La Lurda, Garcihernández and Alba de Tormes, with a total of 30 kilometres.
Finally, pilgrims come to find in Alba de Tormes, the origin of the Noble House of Alba, the historical site where Saint Teresa died on the 4th of October 1582. There, the convent of La Anunciación (The Annunciation) keeps her sepulchre, as well as the great relics of her heart and left arm.
