Natural settings
There are many and different possibilities to enjoy the Nature in the province of Salamanca: the snowy summits of the Sierra de Bejar and Candelario and the canyons of Las Arribes, the oak groves and the meadows…There are Natural Parks, Biosphere Reserves and other environmentally important landscapes which are hidden in this province to be discovered by tourists.
Alive Cathedrals
The sky in Salamanca is not only almost touched by the pinnacles and vanes of the Cathedrals, but also by some vegetal elements which try to get to the sky as well. These are hundred-year-old trees which are scattered our geography and some of them are even older than 500 years old.
Valdelosa Cork oak Trees
This old cork oak can be found in the north of the capital city, around Valdelosa village. The cereal fields are mixed with a forest full of Pyrenean oaks, holm oaks and Gall oaks. And among all of them we can see the naked red cork oak trunks.
Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia
A mountain labyrinth and intrícate valleys shapes Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia natural park. Its strategic location between the two plains allows some species to get in contact.
The dehesa
Although the province of Salamanca offers a great variety of landscapes, snowy summits, sierras, valleys, canyons and plains, the dehesa is undoubtedly the most significant landscape; these are places full of holm oak trees and some oak trees which reach the horizon.
Las Quilamas
In the south of the province the relief turns out to be uneven, with not so high mountains (Pico Cervero, 1.463) and streams, such as the Quilamas or the Palla, flowing along different valleys.
Biosphere Reserves
Two territories in the province of Salamanca, the Sierras de Bejar and Francia and the Arribes del Duero Natural Park, have been declared UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, due to their environmental quality and sustainable development.
