Interpretation Centre of the Frontier Fortifications Route
Ciudad Rodrigo is a frontier strategic location from the Middle Ages, but it turned into an important bastion in the 18th century, when more modern defensive buildings were built against the powerful artillery of that time.
Similar fortifications can be found along the border between Spain and Portugal, such as the Concepcion Fortress or the Portuguese village of Almeida, but none of them are as important as the ones built in Ciudad Rodrigo. This room tries to shows in a simple way this world and its powerful remains, as well as the different sieges of Ciudad Rodrigo during the Independence War.
