The three rivers route

The three rivers Route is a circular path, easy for everybody. It starts and finishes in the Main Square of Sotoserrano. The route leads to the place where the river Francia and Cuerpo de Hombre flows into the river Alagon and the river Alagon valley which goes from north to south of the Sierra the Francia flows into the Tajo in Extremadura.

The visitors go through very different natural settings included in an area that has been declared Biosphere Natural Reserve. The forests full of holm oaks, cork oaks, arbutus, Portuguese oaks and Pyrenean oaks diverge from the valleys full of poplars, willows and alder trees. They are places where many different varieties of birds coexist; the outstanding species is the “colmillejo”, a unique acuatic species in the river Alagon.

Along the path, the walkers will find small places to rest and enjoy some amazing views over the river valleys, the Sierra de Bejar or the village of Miranda del Castañar, hidden among the thickness of the landscape.

You cannot leave the route if you have not visited any of the villages crossed by the path, as they offer the most important traditional products of the area, such as the Iberian Ham, the olive oil, the wine, the cherries and the honey.
