Salamanca, World Heritage

Salamanca, Historic Site and UNESCO World Heritage City, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, a place full of culture, knowledge, universities; it is the city of the Spanish language.

The Plaza Mayor can be the starting point, because it is the most important place of the city. Then, walk towards the Cathedrals and the University and you will be able to enjoy other spectacular monuments such as La Clerecia and the Casa de las Conchas. Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque…Salamanca is an open air museum where you can enjoy all kinds of architecture styles.

Route of the Historical Sites

There are fifteen villages that have been declared “Historical Sites” in the province of Salamanca, the capital city itself is one of them and it is was also declared “World Heritage”:

It is not a coincidence that six of these places are located in the Sierra de Francia: La Alberca, Mogarraz, Miranda del Castañar, Sequeros, San Martin del Castañar and Villanueva del Conde. In the nearby Sierra de Bejar, there are other villages: Bejar, Candelario and Montemayor del Rio, which are near the Via de la Plata.

Blues Festival of Béjar

Béjar, very well known by its good quality clothing and nowadays by its historical site and tourist centre of the sierra, is also a national cultural site.

During the month of July, the Bejarana night hosts the Blues International Festival, which is an annual appointment for music enthusiasts and music-lovers. Many important leading figures have come to this festival since it was created almost 20 years ago, for example Buddy Miles, Joe Turner, Maceo Parker or Joe Louis Walter, and as important bands as The Yardbirds, Ten Years After or the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Jewish Museum David Melul

An engineer from Melilla, David Melul, who was in love with the Town of Bejar, was the first benefactor and cultural promoter of this museum which tries to pay tribute to the Spanish Jews, called Sephardi Jews.
